SAN DIEGO – San Diego State men's tennis head coach Gene Carswell has announced the addition of sophomore transfer Johannes Seeman to the Aztec roster for the 2020-21 campaign.

A native of Pärnu, Estonia, Seeman arrives at SDSU after spending the 2019-20 season at Mountain West rival Fresno State. He will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Scarlet and Black.

"We are very excited that Johannes is joining our program," Carswell said. "He brings a very accomplished résumé with him, including success at international and Division I collegiate level.  His energy and enthusiasm for the game will impact our practice and competitiveness on a daily basis."

As a freshman at Fresno State last spring, Seeman received All-Mountain West doubles recognition after posting a 9-3 record in the No. 1 position during the abbreviated dual-match season with teammate Cagatay Soke. The duo emerged victorious on all eight occasions the Bulldogs captured the doubles point, helping their squad climb to as high as 48th in the ITA team rankings.

In singles play, Seeman posted nine victories on the year, including four in dual-match competition alternating between the second and third spots on Fresno State's ladder.

Prior to college, Seeman was ranked among the top three players in Estonia throughout his junior career. Additionally, he climbed to as high as 477 in the ITF junior rankings.

In 2018, Seeman captured the U18 doubles title at the Tallink Cup in his native Estonia and reached the doubles semifinals at the Riga Open in Latvia. Earlier that year, he also advanced to the doubles finals in a pair of ITF junior events in Tartu, Estonia, and Stavanger, Norway.

With his addition, Seeman becomes the third Aztec newcomer for the upcoming season, joining incoming freshmen Judson Blair (Salem, Ore.) and Roni Rikkonen (Tampere, Finland).

San Diego State looks to build on a 2020 campaign that saw it post a 5-5 record in dual-match competition before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
