SAN DIEGO – Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced the signing of Alex Crain, a graduate transfer from TCU. The 5'9" guard is immediately eligible and will suit up for the Aztecs for two seasons.
"Alex will bring athleticism and experience to the team," Terry-Hutson said. "She can attack off the dribble, knock down threes and is an elite on ball defender. She is extremely intelligent, both in terms of her performance in the classroom and her IQ on the court, and we are thrilled to add her to our family."
"I decided to come to San Diego State because I believe I can accomplish great things with this team and coaching staff," Crain said. "The academics and the opportunities I will have at SDSU are unbeatable and most of all, it just felt like home to me."
Crain, a native of McKinney, Texas, appeared in 48 games while averaging six minutes per game over the past two seasons for the Horned Frogs, who averaged 23 wins a year during that span.
In TCU's final home game of 2020, Crain tallied a season-high seven points and dished out a career-high five assists against Oklahoma. She scored a career-high 11 points against Texas Tech during her freshman season, going 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from three-point range.
A standout in the classroom, Crain recently graduated from TCU with a degree in political science while minoring in philosophy. After the 2019-20 season, she was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Crain, who was home schooled, was rated a three-star prospect by espnW and Prospects Nation coming out of high school. She played for the Dallas Thunder, a basketball organization for home-schooled students that competes as part of the National Christian HomeSchool Championships (NCHC), and earned NCHC All-American and Big South All-Region honors three times.
During her senior year, she averaged 19.5 points, seven rebounds, five assists and 2.5 steals per game and was named the Big South Region Player of the Year after helping lead the Thunder to the 18U Class 5A championship game. As a junior, she averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals per game, while helping the Thunder to a 18U class 8A title. Following the season, she was named the Co-National Junior Offensive Player of the Year.
Crain becomes the fifth Aztec from Texas and is one of eight newcomers that will suit up for SDSU in the 2020-21 season (three transfers and five freshmen).
