CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – San Diego State's April Ranches (Serra HS/San Diego) recently was named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team for her excellence in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year.

Ranches, who is coming off her sophomore season with the Aztecs, earned the WGCA award, which goes out collegiate golfers from Division I, II and III institutions with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA.

With the honor, Ranches gives SDSU 11 WGCA Scholar All-Americans since Leslie Spalding assumed the head coaching reins prior to the 2011-12 campaign.

This past season, Ranches competed in six events, starting four and playing two as an individual. She ranked fifth on the team with a 76.33 scoring average before the season was cut short because of COVID-19. Ranches had a best finish of 19th at the Molly Murphy Crowley Collegiate and went 2-1 at the Lamkin Invitational in match play, helping the Aztecs to a team title.

A 2018-19 Mountain West scholar-athlete, Ranches is majoring in business administration with an emphasis in accounting.

San Diego State was unable to defend its 2019 Mountain West Championship because of the shortened season, but did capture the Lamkin Invitational on Feb. 10-11.
