Aztec Men's Golf Season in Review

San Diego State was in the midst of another solid season in 2019-20 until it was abruptly cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Aztecs won the Bill Cullum Invitational in October and had three individual winners on the season.

Below is a look back at SDSU's 2019-20 campaign by the numbers:
 

.762San Diego State recorded a .769 head-to-head winning percentage on the season, posting a 79-23-2 record.
1The Aztecs captured the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 14-15 at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
2SDSU had two players earn PING All-American honors in junior Puwit Anupansuebsai (third team) and sophomore Leo Oyo (honorable mention), San Diego State's first All-Americans since 2016.
3The Aztecs had three players win individual tournaments on the season, including Puwit Anupansuebsai (Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 14-15), junior Steve Sugimoto (CSUSM Fujikura Invitational on Feb. 3-4) and Leo Oyo (The Prestige Presented by Charles Schwab on Feb. 17-19).
3.81Junior Zihao Jin won a Malik Award, which goes out to the SDSU student-athlete who posted the highest GPA in the fall and/or spring semester. His cumulative GPA is 3.81 (spring 2020 has not been added yet).
4San Diego State had four top-5 finishes in seven events during the 2019-20 campaign.
6Puwit Anupansuebsai was named the Mountain West Golfer of the Year, the sixth Aztec to win the award, joining Lars Johansson (2001), John Lieber (2002), Aaron Goldberg (2008), J.J. Spaun (2012) and Nahum Mendoza III (2016).
7Leo Oyo had seven rounds in the 60s, the most on the team. Oyo also had the most rounds below par (16).
63Puwit Anupansuebsai fired a 9-under 63 at the Bill Cullum Invitational from Oct. 14-15, tied for the second-best round in program history, just one shot behind Alex Kang's 62 set at the 2010 Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
69.59Puwit Anupansuebsai led SDSU with a 69.18 scoring average in 17 rounds.
198Puwit Anupansuebsai shot an 18-under 198 at the Bill Cullum Invite, which matched the second-lowest 54-hole score by a San Diego State player in program history, only trailing Alex Kang's 197 at the 2010 Alister MacKenzie Invitational.
267The Aztecs fired a 21-under 267 in the opening round of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Oct. 14-15, tied for the second-best team round in school history and best since a school-record 265 at the 2012 NCAA Stanford Regional.
824SDSU finished with a 40-under 824 at the Bill Cullum Invite on Oct. 14-15, the seventh-best 54-hole total in program history.




























 Additional Notes* Puwit Anupansuebsai was chosen to represent the international team at the Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club & Lodge on December 21-23, 2020. Anupansuebsai is the third Aztec to be named to an Arnold Palmer Cup team, joining Aaron Goldberg and Nahum Mendoza III, who represented the United States in 2008 and 2016, respectively.
* Puwit Anupansuebsai and Leo Oyo were named to the PING All-West Region team.
* Puwit Anupansuebsai, Christian Banke and Leo Oyo each earned all-Mountain West honors.
* SDSU had a pair of players be named the Mountain West Golfer of the Week in Leo Oyo (Feb. 20) and Puwit Anupansuebsai (March 13).
