SAN DIEGO – All seven of San Diego State's diving team members travel to the NCAA Zone E Championships March 9-11 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. The Aztecs will meet competitors from 29 Division 1 programs to determine the zone's qualifiers for the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga. March 18-21.
 
The top five female and top four male divers from each event at their respective zone diving meet will be eligible to compete at the NCAA championships. Additional place finishers in each event at each zone will be eligible based on the number of student-athletes from that zone who finished in the top 16 in that event at the previous year's championships NCAA championships. For the 2020 national championships, Zone E is eligible to send 12 divers to compete in the 1-meter and 9 competitors to compete in both the 3-meter and platform contests held in Athens.
 
Each of the Aztecs' seven divers qualified to participate in both the 1-meter competition Monday, March 9 and the 3-meter contest Tuesday, March 10. Sophomores Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez, Gina Cazares and Gillian Garcia, alongside senior Marie Yacopino will also compete on Wednesday, participating in the platform dive at the regional championships.
 
Sophomore Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez returns to Zones looking to better her three top-15 performances from 2019, the only Aztec to compete in the final rounds at last year's competition. The Aztecs last sent a diver to the NCAA Championships in 2018, as Alexandra Caplan qualified for the 3-meter competition with a fifth-place finish at the regional competition.
