SAN DIEGO – The final AP Top-25 poll was released this morning and the San Diego State men's basketball team, which had not received any votes at the beginning of the year, finished the 2019-20 season ranked No. 6 in the nation.

The ranking matches the best finish the Aztecs have had in the poll, mirroring the No. 6 ranking the 2010-11 team achieved at the end of that season.  Today's ranking marks the fourth time San Diego State has finished with an AP ranking.  The program finished the 2011-12 and 2013-14 seasons ranked No. 22 and No. 13, respectively in the AP Poll.

San Diego State finishes the season on an 11-week run inside the top-10 which is the second longest in program history, trailing a 13-week run from Dec. 10, 2010 through March 14, 2011.  The Aztecs 15 weeks ranked in the AP Poll this season, is the third longest stretch for the organization and trails a 16-week streak in 2013-14 and a 19-week run in 2010-11.

SDSU finished the regular season as the only team in Division I with a single loss (28-1) and wrapped up competition at 30-2.  The Aztecs' No. 6 ranking in the AP Poll is the third highest in program history and the 10th time the team has been at No. 6 (seven weeks in the 2010-11 season, on Feb. 14, 2014 and in each of the last two weeks). San Diego State totaled 1,279 points in the final poll of the year, its 10th straight week totaling more than 1,200 points.  Prior to this season and since the start of the 2010-11 season, San Diego State had received more than 1,200 points a total of 13 weeks.

After initially appearing in the No. 25 spot in the AP Poll on Dec. 9, the Aztecs climbed to No. 20, No. 15, No. 13, into the top-10 with back-to-back weekly rankings at No. 7, five straight weeks at No. 4, two at No. 5 and now two weeks at No. 6.

Overall, this marks the 81st week the program has been ranked in the AP Top-25 and all have come since the start of the 2010-11 season.  Those 81 weeks are the 21st most for any school in the nation in that time frame; ahead of Maryland and Oregon (74 weeks), Indiana (62 weeks) and UCLA (44 weeks).  This week's No. 6 ranking marks the 31st time the program has appeared in the AP Top-10.
