SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis posted its second consecutive dual-match victory when it topped Youngstown State Wednesday, March 11 by a score of 7-0 at the Aztec Tennis Center.
SDSU's strong play started in doubles action, as junior Tamara Arnold and freshman Julia Jordan posted a 6-0 shutout of YSU's Moraleja and Zagar on court two. Junior Nnena Nadozie and freshman Cécile Morin secured the first point of the match for the Aztecs when they topped the Penguins' Esteo and Barboza 7-6 on court three.
Singles play saw continued success for the Aztecs, as sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy earned the Scarlet and Black's second point of the day in a 6-1, 1-0 (retired) win over YSU's Moraleja on court five. Junior Alicia Melosch followed with a 6-0, 6-3 topping of third-seeded Zagar while Arnold secured the match win for the Aztecs with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over the Penguins' Stanmore on court two.
Also earning wins Wednesday was first seed Nadozie, besting Youngstown State's Teufl 6-4, 6-2, while junior Abbie Mulbarger topped Barboza on court six in a 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 decision. Jordan completed the Aztecs' day on the court with a 7-5, 6-0 win on court four, beating Esteo to secure the shutout victory.
THE STAT
The Aztecs earned their third sweep of the 2020 season Wednesday. SDSU last completed a dual without losing a set Feb. 15, 2020, besting Long Beach State 4-0.
UP NEXT
San Diego State is back on the courts Sunday when they welcome the No.40-ranked University of San Diego Toreros to Aztec Tennis Center for a dual. Play is set to start at noon.
