SAN DIEGO – Head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson has announced addition of Kamaria Gipson to SDSU's 2020 recruiting class. Gipson, a 6'3" center from Beeville, Texas, has scored over 2,500 points in her high school career.

"Kamaria will bring tremendous athleticism to the team," Terry-Hutson said. "She can really rebound, has great timing as a shot blocker and has untapped potential on the offensive end. She comes from a winning program and will be a great fit for our program over the next four years."

Kamaria (Cuh-MARE-uh) Gipson is averaging 21.2 points, 15.2 rebounds and 5.7 blocks per game this season and has helped A.C. Jones High School (Beeville, Texas) to a 28-2 record so far this year after leading them to a program record 30 wins and a Bi-District championship a season ago.

"I picked SDSU because of the program's vision going forward and the plan they have for my development," Gipson said. "The coaching staff made San Diego feel like a home away from home and I meshed well with my future teammates. I hope for great things in the future as an Aztec."

Last season, Gipson averaged 22.6 points and 14.2 rebounds per game and was named the All-South Texas MVP and District 30-4A MVP while also being a TGCA 4A All-State selection and TBAC 4A All-Region pick.

In her sophomore year, she helped her school win the district and area championships and was the District 30-4A MVP and named to the TBCA 4A All-Region team and was an All-South Texas First Team selection.

As a freshman, she averaged 14.5 points, 12.3 rebounds and 6.7 blocks and earned the All-South Texas and District 30-4A Newcomer of the Year awards.

Gipson becomes the first student-athlete from A.C. Jones High School to earn a Division I scholarship.

Gipson is the fifth addition to SDSU's 2020-21 squad. She joins incoming freshmen Asia Avinger, Kimberly Villalobos and Flo Vinerte as well as Mercedes Staples, a transfer from Minnesota. The Aztecs will lose four seniors to graduation following this season: Zayn DornstauderTaylor KalmerMonique Terry and Baylee Vanderdoes.

The Aztecs are back in action Saturday when they host Air Force at 1 p.m. PT for National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
