Moreno, Balint Combine for One-Hitter vs. Weber StateMoreno, Balint Combine for One-Hitter vs. Weber State

SAN DIEGO – Marissa Moreno and Maggie Balint combined for a one-hit shutout in San Diego State's 1-0 victory over Weber State on the first day of the San Diego Classic Friday at SDSU Softball Stadium. It was the third shutout of the season for the Aztecs (12-7).

Moreno started the game in the circle for SDSU and allowed just one hit - a leadoff single by Takesha Saltern - and three walks over 2 2/3 innings. Balint (5-3) relieved Moreno in the bottom of the third and tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings, yielding three walks, while striking out three.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning when a single by Alexa Schultz scored Sara Lillie from third base. Lillie had reached on a one-out walk and moved to second when Shelby Thompson was hit by a pitch. Lillie moved up a base on a deep flyout by Jessica Cordola, before Schultz laced the first pitch she saw into right field for the game-winning RBI.

Schultz led the way for San Diego State, which had only two hits in the game, going 1-for-1 with an RBI and a walk, while Taylor Adams also singled. Shelby Thompson, meanwhile, reached base twice after being hit by a pitch on both occasions.

Following Saltern's leadoff single, the Wildcats (6-11) went 0-for-21 the rest of the game, but did reach via walk six times.

THE NOTE
The Aztecs improve to 5-3 on the season in one-run games. SDSU has played in two straight one-run games, three over its last four, and in five of its last seven contests.

THE NOTE II
SS Shelby Thompson was hit by a pitch twice and now ranks second all-time at San Diego State in times hit by pitch (17), eight behind Sydnee Cable's 25 from 2014-17.
