ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Aztec track and field team finished second at the Mountain West Indoor Championships. SDSU had Kaitlin Heri win the pole vault and they closed out the by winning the 4x400m relay with a meet record time. Nine Aztecs medaled in individual events.
 
The Aztecs took the top four spots in the pole vault, led by Kaitlin Heri who cleared 13-09.75. Molly Scharmann finished in second after clearing 13-07.75 and Elizabeth Funk earned the bronze (13-02.50). All three set new personal bests for indoor. Alysia Allen took fourth (12-11.50). This was the first time the Aztecs have finished first through fourth in an event in their indoor history.
 
Danae Dyer and Neele Schuten both medaled in the 60m hurdles. Dyer earned a silver with a time of 8.21 seconds, the second best time in SDSU's indoor history. Schuten finished in 8.47 and took third and Asia Smith earned fifth with a new PR (8.55).
 
The Aztecs also earned a silver and bronze in the 400m dash. Sakura Roberson finished in 53.81, the third best time in school history and Jalyn Harris earned the bronze (54.33). Maya Brosch came in eighth with a time of 55.75.
 
The Aztecs had four athletes in the 60m dash finals, taking fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Freshman Tiana Osk Whitworth had the top SDSU time, finishing with a PR of 7.49. She was followed by Jada Moore (6th, 7.56), Alexus Alexander (7th, 7.56) and Callista Fletcher (8th, 7.61).
 
In the 200m dash finals, Danae Dyer finished in second finishing in 23.55, the third best time in school history. Jada Moore came in fifth with a PR of 24.09 and Tiana Osk Whitworth finished in eighth (24.18).
 
Nyjari McNeil earned a bronze in the 800m dash with a time of 2:08.53, 0.23 seconds off her school record.

In the 4x400m relay, the team of Jalyn Harris, Danae Dyer, Sakura Roberson and Nyjari McNeil finished in 3:35.65, setting a new meet record. The Aztecs have won the 4x400m relay three of the last four years.
 
THE NOTE I
The Aztecs' 126.5 points were their most at the Mountain West Indoor Championships since 2004.

THE NOTE II
Junior Jalyn Harris has medaled in the 400m dash at the Mountain West Indoor Championships all three years.
 
THE NOTE III
The Aztecs have won the indoor pole vault title six years in a row and eight of the last nine. In total, SDSU has won 27 MW titles in the pole vault out of a possible 41 tries (indoor and outdoor).
 
THE NOTE IV
San Diego State has finished in the top four at the Mountain West Indoor Championships every year since 2010 and in the top three in eight of the last nine years.
 
UP NEXT
The Aztecs will await to see if anyone qualifies for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The rest of the team will start their outdoor season March 7 at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge.
