SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State softball team continues its non-conference slate Wednesday night with a game at California Baptist in Riverside, Calif. First pitch between the Aztecs (11-6) and Lancers (4-10) is set for 5 p.m. PT at John C. Funk Stadium.
SDSU is coming off a 2-3 weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., with wins over 2019 NCAA tournament teams Notre Dame and Wisconsin.
Junior Taylor Adams leads the San Diego State offense with a .351 average (20-for-57) to go along with 11 runs, six RBIs and five doubles. Senior Kiera Wright is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with six runs and five stolen bases, while senior Shelby Thompson (.281) paces the Aztecs in home runs (4), RBIs (13) and runs (13).
The Aztec pitching staff, meanwhile, has posted a 2.87 ERA through 117 innings as opponents are collectively hitting just .226 against them. The bulk of the innings have come from sophomore Hannah Johnson (3-1, 2.24 ERA, 25.0 IP), junior Maggie Balint (4-3, 2 SV, 2.30 ERA, 76 K, 51.2 IP) and senior Marissa Moreno (3-0, 3.23 ERA, 26.0 IP).
SDSU and CBU are meeting for the second time after the Aztecs defeated California Baptist, 2-1, last season at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Lancers are off to a 4-10 start after losing each if their last six games, including all five last weekend at the Silicon Valley Classic in the Bay Area. Wednesday night will be the home opener for CBU.
Nicole Stark leads California Baptist with a .353 average, while Brittany Galvez (.321, 5 RBI), Makenna Stram (.313) and Mackenzie Budinger (.306, 2 HR, 9 RBI) also are hitting over .300 for the Lancers (min. 14 plate appearances). Kerisa Viramontes (2-5, 4.02 ERA, 38.1 IP) and Giana Lopez (1-3, 6.09 ERA, 33.1 IP) have pitched the most innings for CBU.

Following the Wednesday night clash, the Aztecs co-host the San Diego Classic this weekend. SDSU will play Weber State at 7 p.m. PT Friday, St. John's (2 p.m. PT) and No. 1/1 UCLA (7 p.m. PT) on Saturday, and CSUN at 2 p.m. PT Sunday. Altogether, 13 games will be held at SDSU Softball Stadium over the weekend with five games set for Friday and Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. PT, and three on Sunday with a 9 a.m. PT start.
