IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 22 San Diego State water polo team played a pair of ranked teams on Saturday in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational, beating No. 15 UC Davis 13-10, but suffered a set back against No. 8 UC San Diego 9-8.

The Aztecs used a six-goal third quarter to pry open a lead and went on the defeat UC Davis 13-10 on Saturday afternoon.
Isabelle Hastings led the team with a game-high four goals, picking up one in each quarter and Jordann Heimback had seven saves in the game.
SDSU blitzed the Aggies in the first quarter getting goals from Hastings, Sydney Hurst and Emily Bennett to jump out to a 3-0 lead and took a 3-2 advantage into the second period.
In the second, UC Davis turned the tables on the Aztecs getting three successive tallies to take a 5-3 lead in the first 3:15 of the period. The Aztecs came right back with tallies from Shelby Kraft and Hastings to tie it at 5-5, but a goal with just over a minute to go in the half gave the Aggies a 6-5 lead heading into the intermission.
In the third, the SDSU goal scoring flood gates opened up and the team found the back of the net six times. Lindsy Peterson scored a minute and a half into the quarter to tie the game and Hastings third goal of the game put SDSU back in front 7-6.
UC Davis tied it at 7-7 with 4:27 to go, but from there San Diego State scored four times before the quarter ended. The run started with a Jessica Leckich goal at the 4:30 mark. Forty-five seconds later Kraft picked up her second goal of the game. With 1:25 to play Bennett got her second strike of the game and as the quarter expired Delaney Binette made it 11-7 Aztecs.
In the final eight minutes, Hastings tallied her fourth goal of the contest and Haley Hagerty found the back of the net as well. The Aggies then scored three times to make the final score 13-10.

The Aztecs held a 6-5 lead heading into the final period, and pushed its advantage to 8-5, but the Tritons scored the final four goals of the game to steal a 9-8 win from San Diego State.
UCSD jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see the Aztecs tie it up on goals from Delaney Binette and Haley Hagerty in the final two minutes of the first quarter.
In the second, Emily Bennett gave SDSU a 3-2 lead and following a pair of Triton goals Isabelle Hastings got the equalizer with 21 seconds to play to send the game to the intermission tied 4-4.
Sydney Hurst and Bennett gave San Diego State a 6-4 lead in the third quarter and the teams went the final eight minutes with SDSU up 6-5.
In the final stanza, Maddy Parenteau and Karli Canale each found the back of the net in the first minute to push the advantage to 8-5. But from there, UCSD scored four times in the final five and a half minutes, including the eventual game winner with 59 seconds to play to take the 9-8 victory.
Jordan Heimback made four saves in 32 minutes and offensively the team was successful on 8-of-28 shots. Parenteau and Bennett led the team with five shots each and Bennett was the only Aztec to score more than once.
San Diego State (5-8) wraps up play in the Barbara Kalbus Invitational on Sunday morning at 10:15 a.m. against No. 15 Long Beach State.
