Aztecs Head to Loaded Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs Area
Riding the momentum of a five-game winning streak and matching their best 12-game start since 2008, the San Diego State softball team heads to the always competitive Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this weekend in Cathedral City, Calif. 

The Aztecs (9-3), who won the 30th annual Campbell/Cartier Classic last weekend at SDSU Softball Stadium with a 4-1 record, plays Idaho State (3:30 p.m. PT) and Notre Dame (6 p.m. PT) on Thursday, No. 5/5 Arizona (10 a.m. PT) and Wisconsin (8:30 p.m. PT) on Friday, and rv/No. 24 Mississippi State at 7 p.m. PT Saturday. 

SDSU is receiving eight votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and four of its five games this weekend will be against teams who are ranked or receiving votes in one of the two main national polls (Notre Dame and Wisconsin are also receiving votes).

San Diego State leads the Mountain West with a .321 average through 12 games, while owning an impressive 2.13 team ERA.

Alexa Schultz leads the Aztecs with a .389 batting average, while Riley Thies (.375), Kelsey Munoz (.357, 1 HR, 4 2B, 9 RBI, 8 R), Kiera Wright (.348, 5 R, 4 SB), Shelby Thompson (.342, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 12 R) and Taylor Adams (.325, 10 R, 4 SB) all are hitting at least .325. 

Hannah Johnson (3-1, 1.31 ERA, 21.1 IP, 14 K, .158 opp. avg.), Maggie Balint (2-2, 2 SV, 1.95 ERA, 32.1 IP, 46 K, .167 opp. avg.) and Marissa Moreno (3-0, 3.62 ERA, 19.1 IP, 22 K, .263 opp. avg.) have done the bulk of the pitching for SDSU.

On Tuesday night, San Diego State downed Loyola Marymount, 8-1, at SDSU Softball Stadium for its fifth consecutive victory. The Aztecs are outscoring the opposition, 29-7, over its five-game winning streak.
