Aztec Storylines

  • The San Diego State lacrosse team plays its first home game of 2020 when they host Arizona State University Thursday, Feb. 20 before heading back on the road to take on the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, Calif. Sunday, Feb. 23.

  • Opening draw for Thursday's game is set for 1 p.m. while Sunday's is scheduled for 12 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games on GoAztecs.com while the Aztecs' matchup with the Sun Devils will be live streamed here while the game at USC will be live streamed on the Pac-12+ Facebook Page.

  • SDSU returns to The Mesa after a trip to Northern California, opening the season on a sour note with a 15-7 loss against the No. 20-ranked Cardinal. Captain and senior Taylor Sullivan led the Aztecs' scoring charge with three goals while collecting two ground balls and five shots. SDSU also received goals from senior Morgan Taylor, junior Julia Sheehan, sophomore Arielle Shahrabani and freshman Camdyn O'Donnell.

  • Redshirt senior goalkeeper Katy Sharretts started her senior season off like she did her junior campaign, earning MPSF Defensive Player of the Week honors for the fifth time in her career.  Sharretts tabbed 13 saves on 41 shots faced against the Cardinal Feb. 20, earning a .464 save percentage. The Bel Air, Md. native added seven ground balls and one caused turnover in her impressive season debut. Her seven ground balls collected in one game is a feat that has only occurred two other times by a MPSF player since 2017.

  • With her performance on The Farm, Sharretts now has 374 career saves, moving within 32 saves of the program record (currently at 405 saves) for saves in a career with the entire 2020 season left to play. She averaged 10.67 saves per game throughout her redshirt-junior season, an average that if continued would give Sharretts the program record in the next four games.

  • Fellow captain Taylor Sullivan recorded an impressive performance to begin her senior campaign, tallying a hat trick in addition to two ground balls and five shots against the Cardinal Feb. 20. After her performance at Stanford, the Annapolis, Md. native sits at 75 career goals, the fifth-most in a career in program history.

  • Freshman Camdyn O'Donnell had an impressive start to her career in Scarlet and Black, registering her first collegiate goal, two shots on goal and a ground ball against Stanford Feb. 20.  The newcomer prepped at nearby Poway High School, where she compiled 230 goals and 51 assists during her high school career.

  • The Aztecs have a challenging 2020 schedule set, facing five nationally ranked teams in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason poll. After they started off regular season play at No.20 Stanford, the Scarlet and Black now travel up to Los Angeles, Calif. just a week later to take on No. 13 University of Southern California on Sunday, Feb. 23. Competition against ranked opponents doesn't end in February, as the Aztecs travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to battle the preseason No.9-ranked Michigan Wolverines in March. The two teams will face off on Sunday, March 22, at 1 p.m. Four days following, on Thursday, March 26, SDSU meets another ranked opponent in IWLCA preseason No. 10 Denver, as the Pioneers travel to San Diego for a noon match-up. Sitting at the top of the IWLCA preseason rankings is No. 1 University of Maryland, who SDSU will face for the first time in program history in College Park, Md. on Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m.

  • The 2020 season will be Head Coach Kylee White's ninth season as the shot caller for the Aztecs. Since the inception of the program at San Diego State, White has accumulated a 65-70 overall record, highlighted by three-straight 10-plus win seasons.

  • The offseason saw the Aztecs welcome a new face to The Mesa in assistant coach Taylor Gait, a 2016 (bachelor's degree) and 2018 (master's degree) Syracuse graduate. As a senior for the Orange, Gait tallied a career-high 21 points on 18 goals and a personal-best 13 assists, earning All-Northeast Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Assistant coach Brandi Padilla earned a promotion and will now act as SDSU's associate head coach.
