Aztecs Welcomes Loyola Marymount on Tuesday Night

SAN DIEGO – San Diego State continues its busy start to the 2020 season Tuesday night with a game against Loyola Marymount at SDSU Softball Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
 
The Aztecs (8-3) are coming off a successful weekend at the Campbell/Cartier Classic, where they went 4-1 and won the tournament for a record-tying fifth time. SDSU won the final four games of the tournament by a combined score of 21-6, including a pair of shutouts over Brigham Young and Southern Utah on Saturday.
 
SDSU, which leads the Mountain West with a .324 average, has four players hitting over .350 (min. 11 plate appearances), including Riley Thies (.429), Kelsey Munoz (.395, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 8 R, 4 2B), Alexa Schultz (.364, 7 RBI, 5 R, 2 2B) and Shelby Thompson (.361, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 12 R, 1 2B, 2 3B). Kiera Wright (.348, 4 R, 3 SB) and Taylor Adams (.333, 4 RBI, 9 R, 2 2B) have also been key contributors on offense for San Diego State.
 
The Aztec pitching staff has also been impressive with a 2.24 ERA, while limiting their opponents to a .216 average. Hannah Johnson (3-1, 1.38 ERA, 20.1 IP, 13 K, .153 opp. avg.), Maggie Balint (2-2, 2.01 ERA, 31.1 IP, 44 K, .164 opp. avg.) and Marissa Moreno (2-0, 4.40 ERA, 14.1 IP, 15 K, .290 opp. avg.) have done the bulk of the pitching for SDSU.
 
San Diego State leads the all-time series with the Lions (5-5), 19-3, but lost, 2-1, last year in Los Angeles. Molly Grumbo (.514, 3 HR, 8 RBI) and Desiree Moreno (.452, 2 HR, 7 RBI) pace the LMU offense, which is collectively hitting .297 as a team. Linnay Wilson (1-3, 3.11 ERA, 18.0 IP) and Brittany Steenbergen (3-0, 4.33 ERA, 21.0 IP) have pitched the most innings for Loyola Marymount.
 
Following the Tuesday night clash, San Diego State heads to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., for games against Idaho State (3:30 p.m. PT) and Notre Dame (6 p.m. PT) on Thursday, Arizona (10 a.m. PT) and Wisconsin (8:30 p.m. PT) on Friday, and Mississippi State at 7 p.m. PT Saturday.
