COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Sara Kjellker (Hollviken, Sweden) has been named the Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Thursday. It is the Kjellker's fourth career MW weekly or monthly award.
Kjellker led the Aztecs to the Lamkin Invitational title at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe., Calif., by winning all three of her singles matches over the two-day tournament on Monday and Tuesday.
Kjellker picked up a pair of dominating 7&6 wins on Monday, first beating UC Irvine's Sienna Lyford, including a stretch of six consecutive winning holes as SDSU won the match, 4-1. In the semifinals later in the day, Kjellker beat Central Arkansas' Pim-orn Thitisup, 7&6, to help San Diego State beat the Bears, 4.5-0.5, to advance to the championship.
In the championship match on Tuesday against top-seeded San José State, Kjellker downed Natasha Andrew Oon, 1 up, and never trailed in the match, as the Aztecs beat the Spartans, 3-2.
SDSU returns to action Feb. 24-25 in the Bruin Wave Invitational at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
