FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The Aztecs took the top three spots in the pentathlon at the NAU Mountain T's Invitational on Friday. Asia Smith (3,797 points), freshman Neele Schuten (3.660) and Sara Absten (3,501) all won at least one event to help the Aztecs claim first, second and third.

Smith's score of 3,797 was highlighted by a first-place finish in the shot put (40-2.25) and she tied Absten for first in the high jump (5-5.75). Schuten, a freshman from Germany, was competing in her first pentathlon as a collegian and won the long jump (18-3.75) and was the top collegiate finisher in the 60m hurdles (2nd place overall, 8.58). Her total score of 3,660 is eighth in school history. Absten set a new PR in the high jump (5-5.75) and the shot put and finished third overall in the 800m run.

Vanessa Spizewski finished second and was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump with a personal best mark of 18-04.25.

Jade Cany finished third in the high jump clearing 5-05.00, tied for the 10th best mark in school history.

The Aztecs had three finishers in the top six in the 200m dash. Jalyn Harris was the top SDSU finisher, coming in third with a time of 24.27. Freshman Tiana Osk Whitworth earned a fifth-place finish (24.64) and Callista Fletcher was right behind her (24.68).

In Seattle, Wash. at the UW Invitational, the Aztecs ran the third best distance medley relay in program history. The group of Emily Burd, Nyjari McNeil, Lauren Harper and Jessica Kain finished in 12:12.44.

THE NOTE I
The SDSU distance medley relay team that posted the third best time in school history featured three athletes running in their first track meet as an Aztec (Emily Burd, Lauren Harper and Jessica Kain).

THE NOTE II
Four new marks cracked the SDSU all-time top ten for the indoor season.
