SAN DIEGO – A trio of former Aztecs are preparing for Super Bowl LIV, while others are in the middle of their seasons.
The Aztecs will be represented on both sides of the Super Bowl on Sunday in Miami. San Francisco has Daniel Brunskill, who has been a regular contributor this season on the offensive line, and Alex Barrett, who is on their practice squad. Kansas City has David Wells, who has been on injured reserve this season.
Kawhi Leonard had a good week for the Los Angeles Clippers, playing in wins over Miami and Orlando. In last Friday's game in Miami, Leonard had his first career triple-double, scoring 33 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. He followed that up with a double-double in Orlando, scoring 31 points with 14 rebounds on Sunday. Leonard averaged 32.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game this week. The Clippers are 33-15, tied with Denver for second place in the Western Conference.
J.J. Spaun shot 5-under par in the Farmers Insurance Open last weekend at Torrey Pines. He tied for 30th place. Xander Schauffele also competed in the event, but missed the cut.
