SAN DIEGO – San Diego State's dance team won the 2020 Universal Dance Academy College Division IA Hip-Hop Dance National Championship at the UDA College Dance Team National Championship on Jan. 17-19 in Orlando, Fla.
The 27-member dance team beat out UNLV, LSU and the University of Memphis to win their first national title in school history. The team also competed in the D1A Jazz and D1A Game Day categories, placing thirteenth and 7th, respectively.
The SDSU Cheerleading team also competed in the championship and placed 4th in the D1A Coed Game Day, 3rd in D1A All Girl, 5th in D1 Small Coed and 4th in D1A All Girl Game Day.
"We are honored to bring home our first national title from a competition with so many talented and prestigious teams," SDSU Dance Head Coach Kaitlin Collins said. "We would like to thank our SDSU community, alumni, families and other supporters for their unwavering encouragement of our program. The dancers gave their best and left it all out on the floor - It's a great day to be an Aztec."
