SAN DIEGO– Opening the season ranked No. 19 in the nation by the Collegiate Water Polo Association, the San Diego State women's water polo team will face a team of alumni on Saturday in its final tune-up of the preseason.
The Aztecs, who finished the 2019 season 16-16, 5-2 in Golden Coast Conference (GCC) action, and ranked No. 18, were selected to finish in fourth place in the league by the coaches in the GCC.
Emily Bennett returns for her junior season after an All-American honorable mention selection in 2019. She led the Aztecs in goals (44), steals (72) and ejections drawn (71) and was second in assists (30) and field blocks (16). Bennett was named to the All-GCC First Team and was given the team's Leadership Award. Also returning for the Aztecs is Shelby Kraft, was named GCC All-Tournament in 2019 and was third on the team with 37 goals.
The regular season get under way next Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Beach Invitational where the team will face host Long Beach State and La Verne at 11 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.
