SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (8-10, 3-3) hosts first place Fresno State (12-4, 5-0) Wednesday evening inside Viejas Arena. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network with Chris Ello on the call.
Aztec Tidbits
• With a 3-3 record in Mountain West play, the Aztecs are tied for fifth place. The top five teams received a first-round bye at the Mountain West Tournament.
• The Aztecs lost at Boise State 86-72 Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs had their second-best field goal percentage on the year but gave up a season-high 86 points to the Broncos, the defending Mountain West champs.
• That was the first time this season SDSU has lost when scoring 70 or more points (3-1).
• Taylor Kalmer led SDSU with 21 points, the sixth time an Aztec has scored 20 or more this year. Kalmer and Sophia Ramos have each done it three times.
• Zayn Dornstauder had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. This was her second career double-double and fourth time having 10 or more rebounds.
• Freshman Isabela Hernandez scored 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, the second most points she has had in a game.
• SDSU was 20-for-23 from the free throw line at Boise State Saturday, the best free throw percentage (.870) they have had in a game this season. They are shooting 79.0 percent from the line in conference play.
• Taylor Kalmer has scored in double-digits in 16 of SDSU's 18 games and in 12 straight. Prior to coming to SDSU, she scored 10 or more points 11 times in 80 games while at Oregon State.
• As of Monday, Taylor Kalmer and Sophia Ramos are second and third in the nation in total minutes played.
• The Aztecs are averaging just 14.0 personal fouls this season, 19th best in the nation.
• SDSU is top three in the conference in blocked shots per game, total rebounds, free throws made and attempted and personal fouls per game.
• SDSU is 8-2 when they have a better field goal percentage than their opponent and 0-8 when they don't.
• SDSU secured a commitment from Minnesota transfer Mercedes Staples last week. The 5'10" guard will be eligible midway through next season as a junior. A former top-75 recruit, Staples appeared in 33 games for the Golden Gophers and made three starts.
• Sophomore Mallory Adams is out for the year with a knee injury. She averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in six games.
• San Diego State received votes in the preseason Coaches' Poll, marking the first time since 2012 the Aztecs have been recognized in a national poll.
• SDSU finished with 14 wins in the 2018-19 season, the most they have had under head coach Stacie Terry-Hutson.
Noting the Boise State Game (L, 72-86, 1-11-20)
• Boise State now leads the all-time series 9-8.
• SDSU shot 50 percent from the floor, their second-best percentage on the year.
• This was SDSU's first loss when scoring 70 or more points (3-1).
• This was just the Aztecs second loss when having a better shooting percentage than their opponent (8-2).
• SDSU was 20-for-23 from the free throw line, their highest percentage from the line this season (.870).
• The Aztecs 20 free throws were the second most they have made this season.
• SDSU scored 27 points in the third quarter, tied for the second most they have scored in a quarter this season.
• Boise State's 86 points were the most the Aztecs have allowed this season. The Broncos shot 49.2 percent from the floor, also the highest SDSU has allowed on the year.
• Boise State was 19-for-20 from the free throw line, the most free throws SDSU has given up and the highest percentage a team has shoot against the Aztecs (.950).
• The Broncos' 20 assists tied for the most an opponent has distributed against SDSU (San Jose State).
• Boise State's 29 points in the second quarter were the most the Aztecs have allowed in any quarter all year.
• BSU scored 43 points in the first half, the most SDSU has allowed in the first two quarters and tied for the most they have allowed in a half. (Fresno State, 43, 1-1-20, 2nd half).
• The Broncos scored 40 points in the paint, tied for the second most SDSU has allowed this year. SDSU scored just 16 points in the paint, their lowest in six Mountain West games.
• Boise State scored 40 bench points. The previous-high SDSU allowed was 29 vs. Arkansas State.
• Taylor Kalmer scored 21 points, the sixth time an Aztec has scored 20 or more this year. Kalmer and Sophia Ramos have each done it three times.
• Zayn Dornstauder finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds, her second career double-double and fourth time finishing with 10 or more rebounds.
• This was the fifth time this year SDSU has had a player collect 10 or more rebounds.
• Dornstauder was 8-for-8 from the line, a new career-high for free throws made.
• Her eight free throws tied for the most an Aztec has made this season.
• Dornstauder became the second Aztec to make at least eight free throws without missing (Ramos).
Opponent Notebook (Fresno State)
• The Bulldogs are 12-4 on the year and 5-0 in conference and alone in first place.
• They went 19-13 last year and finished fourth in the Mountain West with an 11-7 record.
• They are 4-2 on the road.
• Fresno State has won four in a row and eight of their last nine games.
• They have an average win margin of 9.2 in their five MW games.
• The Bulldogs average just 12.1 turnovers a game, ninth in the nation and have an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.38, 11th in the nation
• They average 78.4 points per game while shooting 44.2 percent from the field, both are second in the conference.
• Their average scoring margin of +12.1 is tops in the Mountain West.
• They have three players scoring at least 16 points per game. Maddi Utti leads the team with 17.9 points per game . Hanna and Haley Cavinder, freshmen twin sisters, are averaging 16.6 and 16.1
points per game respectively. These three players are second, third and fourth in the conference in scoring.
• Utti and Haley Cavinder are leading the team with 7.9 rebounds per game and Hanna Cavinder averages a team-best 4.3 assists per contest.
• Utti is the current MW Player of the Week after scoring 28 points and collecting 17 rebounds in an overtime victory over New Mexico.
• Head coach Jamie White (6th season) has led the Bulldogs to two 20-win seasons and two appearances in the Mountain West Championship game. She came to Fresno State after six seasons as the head coach at Northern Colorado.

• San Diego State leads the all-time series 27-22, but the Bulldogs have won six of the last seven meetings and 10 of the last 12.
• Since Fresno State joined the Mountain West, SDSU is 4-12 against the Bulldogs.
