Aztecs Resume MW Play at Fresno State Wednesday

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's basketball team (6-8, 1-1) resumes Mountain West play when they face off with Fresno State (9-4, 2-0) January 1 at 6 p.m. on the road. The game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network and Chris Ello will be on the mic for an audio-only broadcast as well.

Aztec Tidbits
• SDSU fell in overtime to CSUN 74-69 Dec. 28 despite Taylor Kalmer tying a career-high with 22 points.
• Sophia Ramos had 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and just two turnovers in 44 minutes.
• Zayn Dornstauder scored 13 points after tying a career-high with 14 points in SDSU's last game at Incarnate Word. She leads the team with a field goal percentage of 59.5.
• The Aztecs won a pair of road games prior to the holidays. They beat California Baptist 80-68 on Dec. 19 and then knocked off Incarnate Word 57-48 in front of a pro-Aztec crowd in San Antonio on Dec. 21.
• Taylor Kalmer and Sophia Ramos both averaged at least 16 points in SDSU's six December games. Kalmer averaged 18.0 points per game and tied her career-high with 22 points twice. Ramos averaged 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists and set a new career-high with 30 points at California Baptist.
• Taylor Kalmer has scored in double-digits in 12 of SDSU's 14 games and in eight straight. Prior to coming to SDSU, she scored 10 or more points 11 times in 80 games while at Oregon State.
• Kalmer and Ramos are second and third in the nation in total minutes played.
• Sophia Ramos was named the Mountain West Player of the week December 23 after averaging 19.5 points in SDSU's two road wins. She set a new career-high with 30 points against California Baptist on 9-14 shooting. She became the first Aztec to score 30 points in nearly two years (McKynzie Fort) and was the first SDSU 30-point scorer to shoot 64 percent or better from the field since Paris Johnson did so at Hawai'i in 2008.
• SDSU is second in the Mountain West in blocks per game (3.9) and third in total rebounds.
• The Aztecs are averaging just 14.0 personal fouls this season, the 18th best in the nation and second in the conference.
• Sophomore Mallory Adams is out for the year with a knee injury. She averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in six games.

Noting the CSUN Game (L, 69-74 (OT), 12-28-19)
• Neither team ever led by more than six points. SDSU's largest lead came late in the first quarter (16-10) and CSUN led by six in the first minute of the fourth quarter (43-49).
• CSUN's De'Jionae had 25 of her 27 points in the second half and Taylor Kalmer had 19 of her 22 in the second half.
• This was the first time the Aztecs have lost when holding a lead at halftime (5-1).
• This was SDSU's first overtime game of the season and their first since playing back-to-back overtime games in last year's Mountain West Tournament.
• The Aztecs had a season-high eight blocks with Sophia Ramos, Zayn Dornstauder and Monique Terry each recording two swats.
• The Aztecs had a season-high 42 points in the paint.
• CSUN had 12 steals and 77 field goal attempts, both season-highs for a SDSU opponent.
• Both teams finished with 28 field goals, but CSUN had 17 more attempts than SDSU.
• This was SDSU's first loss when having a better field goal percentage.
• SDSU is now 1-5 when their opponent score 70 or more points.
• Taylor Kalmer has scored at least 10 points in eight straight games. She has reached double-digits a team-high 12 times this season.
• In her last two games, Kalmer is averaging 20.5 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 56.7 percent from the field.
• Sophia Ramos played 44 minutes and committed just two turnovers while dishing out eight assists. She also added 14 points and nine rebounds.
• Zayn Dornstauder scored 13 points after tying a career-high with 14 points at Incarnate Word (12-21-19). She has made 11 of her last 16 field goals attempts (.688) and is shooting 59.5 percent from the field on the year.

Opponent Notebook (Fresno State)
• The Bulldogs are 9-4 on the year
• They went 19-13 last year and finished fourth in the Mountain West with an 11-7 record.
• They are 5-1 at home so far this year.
• They have won five of their last six games.
• They won both their Mountain West games in early December, beating UNLV on the road 72-66 and knocking off Utah State at home 76-64.
• They average just 11.5 turnovers a game, sixth in the nation and have an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.41, ninth in the nation
• They average 77.4 points per game while shooting 44.5 percent from the field, both top three in the conference.
• Their average scoring margin of +12.0 is tops in the Mountain West.
• They have three players scoring at least 16 points per game. Maddi Utti leads the team with 17.1 points per game . Hanna and Haley Cavinder, freshmen twin sisters, are averaging 16.5 and 16.2 points per game respectively.
• Utti and Haley Cavinder are leading the team with 6.8 rebounds per game and Hanna Cavinder averages a team-best 4.6 assists per contest.
• Head coach Jamie White (6th season) has led the Bulldogs to two 20-win seasons and two appearances in the Mountain West Championship game. She came to Fresno State after six seasons as the head coach at Northern Colorado.

Fresno State Series Notes
• San Diego State leads the all-time series 27-21, but the Bulldogs have won five of the last six meetings and nine of the last 11.
• The Aztecs are 10-11 all-time against the Bulldogs when playing in Fresno.
• They split their two meetings last year with the visiting team winning both times.
• Last year, SDSU won at Fresno State 59-58 in the second to last regular season game of the season. It was the Aztecs' first win in Fresno since Jan. 15, 2014.
• SDSU won 13 straight meetings from 1993-97.
• Their first meeting was January 13, 1977 a 61-42 SDSU win. The Aztecs won the first five meetings.
