Aztecs Return Home to Host CSUN Saturday

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State women's basketball team (6-7, 1-1) returns home for their final non-conference game on Saturday when they host CSUN at 12:30 p.m. There will not be a stream, but Chris Ello will be on the mic for an audio-only broadcast. The Aztec men's team hosts Cal Poly following the women's game at 4:00 p.m.
 
Aztec Tidbits
• The Aztecs won a pair of road games prior to the holidays. They beat California Baptist 80-68 on Dec. 18 and then knocked off Incarnate Word 57-58 in front of a pro-Aztec crowd in San Antonio.
• Sophia Ramos was named the Mountain West Player for the week after averaging 19.5 points in SDSU's two road wins. She set a new career-high with 30 points against California Baptist on 9-14 shooting. She became the first Aztec to score 30 points in nearly two years (McKynzie Fort) and was the first SDSU 30-point scorer to shoot 64 percent or better from the field since Paris Johnson did so at Hawai'i in 2008.
• SDSU tied a season-high with 80 points at California Baptist and shot a season-best 46 percent from the floor.
• Baylee Vanderdoes had her second double-double in a three-game span when she tied a career-high with 12 points and brought in 11 rebounds at California Baptist on Dec. 18.
• Taylor Kalmer had a team-high 19 points at Incarnate Word (Dec. 21) and has scored in double-digits in 11 of SDSU's 13 games. Prior to coming to SDSU, she scored 10 or more points 11 times in 80 games while at Oregon State.
• Zayn Dornstauder tied a career-high with 14 points at Incarnate Word on 6-for-7 shooting.
• Tea Adams tied a career-high with eight rebounds at California Baptist and Monique Terry set a new career-high with seven rebounds at Incarnate Word.
• The Aztecs are 6-0 when they have a higher shooting percentage than their opponent and 0-7 when they don't.
• SDSU is second in the Mountain West in blocks per game (4.0) and third in total rebounds.
• The Aztecs are averaging just 13.7 personal fouls this season, the 15th best in the nation and second in the conference.
• Sophomore Mallory Adams is out for the year with a knee injury. She averaged 12.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in six games.
 
Noting the Incarnate Word Game (W, 57-48, 12-21-19)
• The Aztecs never trailed in the game.
• Sophia Ramos and Monique Terry, both San Antonio natives, had approximately 100 friends and family in attendance.
• Taylor Kalmer and Zayn Dornstauder combined for 33 points on 14-for-19 shooting.
• Zayn Dornstauder's 14 points tied a career-high and came on 6-for-7 shooting. This is the second time this season she has gone 6-for-7 in a game thie season.
• Monique Terry had a career-high seven rebounds.
• This was the third time, the Aztecs have held their opponent under 50 points. They are 3-0 in those games.
• Incarnate Word scored just six points in the first quarter and 18 in the first half, new season-lows for a SDSU opponent.
• This was SDSU's first win when being outrebounded.
• Taylor Kalmer has scored at least 10 points in seven straight games. She has reached double-digits a team-high 11 times this season.
 
Opponent Notebook (CSUN)
• The Matadors are 3-9 on the year.
• They went 16-15 last year and 10-6 in the Big West.
• They are 1-4 on the road so far this year.
• They have faced two common opponents as SDSU (California Baptist and San Diego). They went 0-1 in those meetings while the Aztecs went 1-1.
• They shoot 22.5 three-pointers a game but are shooting just 27 percent from deep.
• CSUN has a rebounding margin of -5.9
• They are led by Di'Jionae Calloway, who is averaging 12.9 points per game and 8.5 rebounds.
• Head coach Jason Flowers (10th season) has the most wins in program history and is a two-time Big West Coach of the Year.
 
CSUN Series Notes
• San Diego State leads the all-time series 10-4.
• They have played each of the last two years with the home team winning both meetings.
• Last year, SDSU nearly came back from a 23-point fourth quarter deficit. The Aztecs outscored CSUN 34-18 in the fourth quarter, led by Sophia Ramos, who scored 28 points with 24 coming in the second half.
• Sophia Ramos hit seven three-pointers, including six in the fourth quarter in the last meeting.
• The Aztecs are 6-1 all-time against CSUN in San Diego.
• Their first meeting was February 14, 1978, a 76-70 CSUN win.
