COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Malachi Flynn has been named the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 1.  The announcement was made from the league office on Monday.
 
In sweeping three games last week, 62-49 against Tennessee State, and 83-52 versus Creighton and 83-73 versus Iowa in the Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational (LVI), Flynn averaged 20.0 points, 3.7 assists, 2.7 rebounds, and had a 1.6:1 assist to turnover ratio for the 8-0 Aztecs.
 
In winning the LVI and being named the tournament MVP, the native of Tacoma, Wash., totaled 49 points on 15-of-27 shooting (55.5 percent), including hitting six three pointers and had seven assists, seven rebounds and five steals.  Incredibly, after being held scoreless in the first half of the championship game against Iowa, Flynn went off in the second half.  In the final 20 minutes, he scored 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting (61.5 percent), 3-of-7 from distance (42.8 percent) and knocked down all nine free throws he attempted.  He grabbed three rebounds, dished out three assists and had three steals.
 
For the week, the junior transfer from Washington State, was 19-of-40 from the field (47.5 percent), 9-of-22 from beyond the arc (40.9 percent), a perfect 13-of-13 from the line, had eight rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals.
  
This is the first Mountain West weekly award for Flynn and the second for an Aztec men's basketball player in as many weeks and the second for a member of the team this season.
 
San Diego State plays at Colorado State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. (PT) and then returns home on Sunday for a matinee matchup against San Jose State.  Tipoff on Sunday on Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena is scheduled for 12 p.m.
