ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The San Diego State football team completed its first day of activities in conjunction with the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, N.M.
After departing San Diego in mid-morning following an early practice on campus, the Aztecs arrived in Albuquerque and were greeted in the Land of Enchantment to temperatures in the low 40s with partly cloudy skies. Immediately after descending the stairs from the plane, SDSU was greeted by New Mexico Bowl staff and a mariachi band.
The Scarlet and Black soon boarded a convoy of busses for the short ride to the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown, where the team will be headquartered for the week. At the hotel, San Diego State was met by another band and additional New Mexico Bowl staff.
Following media interviews with Albuquerque natives Jordan Byrd and Keshawn Banks, and former New Mexico head coach Rocky Long, the Aztecs secured their luggage and checked into their rooms before making their way to a team welcome dinner at Main Event.
At Main Event, both SDSU and Central Michigan helped themselves to pizza, mac and cheese, bread and salad, and more, while bowling and mingling with each other.
SDSU will get down to business on Thursday when it will conduct its first practice of the week at the nearby UNM practice fields. Members of the San Diego State team will also visit an elementary school and a children's hospital, before heading to a team dinner to close the day's festivities.
The Aztecs (9-3) and Chippewas (8-5) play at noon MT (11 a.m. PT ) Saturday.
