SAN DIEGO – Deitre Collins-Parker, who has served as head coach of the San Diego State volleyball program since 2009, has been relieved of her duties, Aztec director of athletics John David Wicker announced today.

San Diego State, which has made 14 appearances in the NCAA volleyball tournament but only two since 2001, will begin a national search for the next head coach immediately.

"I appreciate Deitre's time and commitment to San Diego State volleyball and all that she has done for the good of the sport through the years," Wicker said. "The women she and her staff have led have graduated and departed SDSU prepared to be terrific citizens and to pursue careers in a variety of professions.  However, at this time, I believe that a change in leadership is necessary to maximize the potential of the program.

"I wish Deitre all the best in her future endeavors."

Collins-Parker guided SDSU to a 171-162 record during her 11 seasons on The Mesa, having posted a winning record in league play on just two occasions in the last seven years and finishing no higher than a tie for third place during that stretch. In her final season in 2019, Collins-Parker led SDSU to a fifth-place standing in the MW with an 8-10 mark and a 15-14 record overall.

The highlight of the Collins-Parker era was a Mountain West co-championship in 2012, when the Aztecs finished with a 23-8 overall mark and a 13-3 ledger in conference matches. For her efforts, she garnered MW Coach of the Year accolades, as SDSU received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament.

During Collins-Parker's tenure, the Aztecs collected 21 all-MW honors and 50 academic all-conference certificates, while two of her players – Andrea Hannasch (2011-12) and Johnna Fouch (2012) – received All-America honorable mention.

Prior to her arrival at San Diego State, Collins-Parker served as head coach at Cornell for five seasons from 2004-08, following an eight-year stint in the same capacity at UNLV from 1996-2003. Her career record stands at 333-353 (.485).

A former member of the U.S. national team and a three-time AVCA All-American at the University of Hawai'i, Collins-Parker was the starting middle blocker for the 1988 Olympic Team in Seoul, South Korea, and was an alternate for the 1992 squad in Barcelona, Spain. She played in over 130 international matches and earned bronze medals at the 1986 Goodwill Games and the 1987 Pan-Am Games.

Melanie Greene, a three-year letterwinner for the Aztecs volleyball program who has served as assistant coach for the program since 2011, will serve as interim head coach while the national search is conducted.
