NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- San Diego State senior cornerback Luq Barcoo has been named a second-team All-American by Walter Camp, the Walter Camp Foundation announced Thursday.

Barcoo is the first Aztec defensive back in program history to earn Walter Camp All-America honors and the fourth SDSU player to garner Walter Camp All-America accolades, joining Marshall Faulk (first team in 1992 and 1993), Donnel Pumphrey (first team in 2016) and Rashaad Penny (second team in 2017).

Barcoo, who was a semifinalist for the Paycomm Jim Thorpe Award (best defensive back), leads all FBS players in total passes defended (INT + PBU) (24) and passes defended per game (2.00), and is tied for the FBS lead in pass breakups (16). The Chula Vista, Calif., native is also tied for second in interceptions (8) and interceptions per game (0.67). Barcoo, a first-team all-Mountain West selection and Pro Football Focus Honorable-Mention All-American, has also chipped in with 51 tackles (41 solo), including 5.0 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks, in his first season as a starter.

Barcoo's eight interceptions are tied with Damontae Kazee (2015) and Tom Deckert (1969) for the most in SDSU's Division I history, and the second most in program history (Ed Ricketts, 12 in 1951). His 16 pass breakups, meanwhile, are tied with Darren Hall and Ron Smith (2017) for the second-most pass breakups in San Diego State single-season history, six behind Marlon Andrews (22 in 1990).

This is the 130th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team - the nation's oldest All-America team. The 2019 Walter Camp All-America team will be honored at the organization's 53rd annual national awards banquet, presented by David McDermott Lexus of New Haven, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020 at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.

Barcoo and the Aztecs (9-3) play Central Michigan in the New Mexico Bowl on Dec. 21, 2019 in Albuquerque, N.M.
