SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (4-7) fell to San Diego (5-4) 70-47 Wednesday evening.
SDSU struggled on the glass and with turnovers but kept the Toreros in striking distance for the majority of the game. However, USD put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 23-11.
Téa Adams led SDSU with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting and Taylor Kalmer added 15 points. Sophia Ramos finished with nine points, six assists and five rebounds.
The Aztecs stumbled out of the game and committed five turnovers in the game's first four minutes and found themselves down 8-0.
The Toreros followed with their own turnover spree, allowing SDSU to go on a 10-4 run to bring the score to 12-10, but that would be as close as the Aztecs would get.
SDSU shot 50 percent in both the first and second quarter but turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and trailed 31-27 at the halftime break.
The Toreros consistently gave themselves extra opportunities with their offensive rebounding and began to pull away in the third quarter. USD began the fourth quarter on a 15-0 run and the Aztecs never recovered.
USD was paced by Madison Pollock's 19 points. Sydney Hunter chipped in 14 points and Myah Pace added 12 points, six rebounds and five steals.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Toreros outrebounded SDSU 44-22 and had 20 offensive rebounds to the Aztecs' four.
THE NOTE
Taylor Kalmer has scored at least 10 points in five straight games.
