SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (3-5) fell to Arkansas State (2-5) 71-62 inside Viejas Arena Saturday afternoon. SDSU trailed for most of the game but strung together a run late in the fourth quarter to pull within five points. However, they missed seven of their final eight shots and dropped their third game in a row.
Téa Adams had a career-day and led the team with 16 points. The junior guard hit a career-high three three-pointers and dished out eight assists, also a new career best. She also recorded four of SDSU's six steals.
Taylor Kalmer added 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting and Sophia Ramos had 15 points and five assists.
The Aztecs hit a season-high nine three-pointers with Adams and Kalmer knocking down three each and had assists on 20 of their 23 field goals.
SDSU started the game up 8-3 but a 14-2 Arkansas State run erased the lead and the Aztecs never led again. SDSU had eight first quarter turnovers which directly led to 16 of the Red Wolves' 17 first quarter points.
SDSU managed to tie the game at 24-24 midway through the second quarter only to see Arkansas State go on a 9-0 run after knocking down three consecutive three-pointers.
Arkansas State began the final frame with a 9-2 run to go up 60-47, their largest lead of the game. SDSU started to chip away and would cut the deficit to 64-59 with 2:45 remaining but that would be as close as they would get.
The Red Wolves were led by Jireh Washington's 20 points. As a team, they shot 49 percent from the field and knocked down 50 percent of their three-pointers.
