SAN DIEGO - It was the best week of the season so far for the former Aztecs in the NFL.
The Philadelphia Eagles defense came into the week as one of the top-ranked rushing defenses in the league, but Rashaad Penny didn't get the memo. Penny for 129 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries (9.2 avg.). He had a 26-yard scamper in the second quarter and a 21-yard carry early in the fourth quarter, but his day was highlighted by a 58-yard touchdown run, also in the fourth quarter. Penny burst into the open field before tossing cornerback Ronald Darby to the ground at the 15-yard line before scoring the touchdown. Penny trailed only Tennessee's Derrick Henry in rushing yards on the week. He was also targeted once in the passing game. In all, Penny saw the field for 30 snaps on offense in Seattle's 17-9 win. The Seahawks will look to continue their winning ways against Minnesota on Monday Night Football.
San Francisco's offense started off its game stagnant on Sunday night, totaling 41 yards. Then, the 49ers fortunes changed when they subbed in Daniel Brunskill for Justin Skule at left tackle. The 49ers scored on all three drives with Brunskill in the game. Facing the vaunted Green Bay pass rush, Brunskill did not allow a single pressure on quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He appeared in 28 snaps on offense and seven on special teams in the 37-8 win. The 49ers travel to Baltimore for a highly anticipated matchup with the Ravens on Sunday.
Damontae Kazee had another good week. He made nine tackles, two of which were solo, against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Kazee appeared in 63 snaps on defense and 15 on special teams. Atlanta plays the New Orleans Saints as the Primetime Thanksgiving game on Thursday night. Kameron Kelly played in 15 special teams snaps for Pittsburgh in its 16-10 win over Cincinnati in Week 12. The Steelers have another divisional game in Week 13, this time against Cleveland. Aaron Brewer and the Arizona Cardinals were on bye in Week 12. They host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Nick Bawden and Kahale Warring are on injured reserve for Detroit and Houston, respectively. Ryan Pope is on Jacksonville's practice squad, while Calvin Munson is on New England's.
Kawhi Leonard returned to action and led the Los Angeles Clippers to a 4-0 week with victories over Boston, Houston, New Orleans, and Dallas. In those games, Leonard 23.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks. The Clippers are tied with Denver for the second-most wins in the Western Conference with 13 and sit third in the conference standings.
In golf, J.J. Spaun competed in the RSM Classic, but failed to make the cut.
