COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Yanni Wetzell has been named the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24.  The announcement was made from the league office on Monday.

In sweeping both games last week, 66-49 at the University of San Diego and 81-64 versus LIU, Wetzell averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, an assist and a steal for the 5-0 Aztecs.

At USD, he recorded his first double double as an Aztec, and third of his career, with career-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds.  Wetzell was 9-of-11 from the field, producing the best shooting night for an Aztec (minimum nine made field goals) since Billy White was 10-of-12 against Wichita State on Dec. 4, 2010. Wetzell's 12 rebounds are the most by an Aztec this season.

Versus LIU, the Auckland, New Zealand native, had 13 points and five rebounds.  He went 6-of-7 from the field and reached double figure scoring in consecutive games for the second time in his 38-game Division I career.  Combined with the USD game, Wetzell totaled 33 points and 17 rebounds, the highest two-game total of his career.

For the week, Wetzell shot 15-of-18 from the field (.833) and is just one of three players this year who has had a game where his shot at least .800 from the floor, grabbed at least 12 boards and was perfect from beyond the three-point line.

This is the first Mountain West weekly award for Wetzell and the first for an Aztec men's basketball player this season.

San Diego State hosts Tennessee State tonight at 7 p.m. on Steve Fisher Court at Viejas Arena.
