Aztecs Fall to Cal 74-48

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec women's basketball team (3-3) suffered a 74-48 loss to California (2-2) inside Viejas Arena Thursday evening. The Golden Bears held a lead for the entire game and outrebounded the Aztecs 44-30.

Mallory Adams led the Aztecs with 17 points while Sophia Ramos added 14.

The Aztecs struggled with Cal's size and athleticism and found themselves in an 11-2 hole early in the game. SDSU made their next three shots and pulled within two points, but that be would as close as they would get the rest of the game.

Cal held SDSU to 33 percent shooting in the second quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 18-10 in the quarter to take a 38-25 lead into the halftime break.

The Aztecs' offensive struggles carried into the second half where they shot just 7-for-27 (26 percent). SDSU finished the game with a season-low two made three-pointers.

Cal had three players score in double-figures, led by Jaelyn Brown's 18 points. Alaysia Styles added 17 points and CJ West chipped in 10. Evelien Lutje Schiph finished with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
