PHILADELPHIA -- San Diego State's Rocky Long has been named a semifinalist for the 2019 George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday. Long is one of 22 semifinalists for the award and one of just eight from a Group of 5 conference.

Long has guided the Aztecs to an 8-2 record on the season and a 5-2 mark in Mountain West play. Should SDSU beat Hawai'i on Saturday night in Honolulu, San Diego State would make a third Mountain West Championship since the inception of the game in 2013.

The Aztecs, who are currently ranked 25th in the Amway Coaches Poll, have been ranked twice in the AP Top 25 Poll this year with a high of No. 24.

SDSU enters the weekend ranked second in the country in time of possession (34:44) and rushing defense (65.80), third in turnovers lost (7) and fumbles lost (2), fourth in opponent first downs (143), seventh in turnover margin (+1.10), and eighth in total defense (270.00) and scoring defense (13.70).

Finalists for the award will be announced on Dec. 9 with the winner being selected on Dec. 29. The formal presentation of the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award will take place at the Maxwell Football Club's National Awards Gala on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Tropicana Resort in Atlantic City, N.J.

The start time for San Diego State and Hawai'i is 6 p.m. HT (8 p.m. MT) in Honolulu.
