COLUMBIA, Mo. – San Diego State's senior swimmer Morganne McKennan qualified for the U.S. Olympic Time Trials Tuesday at the Mizzou Invitational Long Course Time Trials. McKennan competed in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:09.80 to record the fastest long course time in program history.
"Morganne was super aggressive in the race and just hung tough all the way to the end," head coach Mike Shrader said. "We are all very excited for her success. We have a lot of racing to look forward to this weekend and are excited to see what the rest of our swimmers will do."
Other Aztec competitors in the trials were Cathy Cooper (50 free), Sammy Geyer (50 free), Lizzie Menzmer (50 free), McKenna Meyer (400 IM), Kristina Murphy (100 breast), Mia Ryan (200 free), Evonne Stehr (50 free), and Riley Tapley (200 back). McKennan's effort sends her to compete in the U.S. Olympic Time Trials Sunday, June 21 through Sunday, June 28 in Omaha, Neb., where she will compete to earn a spot on the U.S. National Team for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
The Aztecs compete in the Mizzou Invitational Wednesday through Friday, November 20-22. Preliminary heats begin at 10 A.M. CT followed by final heats at 6 P.M. CT.
