LOGAN, UTAH – The Aztec cross country team finished 10th at the Mountain West Championships in Logan, Utah Friday morning.

Running in temperatures below freezing, SDSU was paced by the sophomore duo of Carlene Masar (22:26.2) and Marissa D'Atri (22:34.1), who finished in 59th and 61st respectively.

"The top two girls [Masar & D'Atri) ran well today," coach Shelia Burrell said after the race. "Considering the elements and this being the first time many of the girls have run at high altitude, our performance today indicates we are moving in the right direction toward developing a more competitive team."

Rounding out the top five for SDSU was junior Renee Phillips (75th; 23:23.0), freshman Alex Lomeli (78th; 23:33.3) and sophomore Paige Comiso (80th; 23:39.0). Also competing for the Aztecs were freshman Lauren Harper (84th; 24:04.3) and sophomore Naomi Smitham (88th; 24:40.7).

New Mexico, who is ranked No. 11 in the country, took first place and had three runners in the top five. Lobo All-American Weini Kelati was the first to finish, crossing the line in 19.11.15, 49 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Air Force finished in second place, followed by No. 13 Boise State, Colorado State and the host school, Utah State.

THE NOTE
The Aztecs had the same top five finishers as they did in their last race, the Bronco Invitational.
