SAN DIEGO – With a bye in the first round of the 2019 Mountain West Championship, San Diego State waited until Tuesday to find out its opponent for a Thursday semifinal match-up. The Aztecs, the No. 2 seed in the Championship will face the Fresno State Bulldogs, the No. 6 seed, in an 11 a.m. MT kickoff.
Aztecs Notes
• San Diego State, which earned a share of the 2019 Mountain West regular-season title, is the No. 2 seed in this week's Mountain West Championship and will play No. 6 Fresno State is a semifinal matchup on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. MT, after the Bulldogs advanced 3-1 on penalty kicks against No. 3 Colorado State.
• It's share of the MW regular-season title marks the sixth time since the 1999 inception of the Mountain West that the Aztecs have either won outright or shared the regular-season crown.
• San Diego State is playing its second MW Championship game outside of America's Finest City for the second time in as many appearances, the team competed in the 2017 Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., and the second time since 2013, when the tournament was held in Albuquerque, N.M. In 2013, the Aztecs earned a bye into the semifinal round and defeated Utah State before downing Boise State to win the title and in 2017, they defeated Boise State in the semifinals and New Mexico in the Championship match.
• The Aztecs come into the Mountain West Championship with an impressive 13-game unbeaten streak in tourney settings. In its last 13 MW tournament outings, SDSU has compiled an 10-0-3 record. San Diego State has not suffered a defeat in this tournament since a 1-0 setback to Wyoming in the semifinal round of the 2011 tourney.
• Under head coach Mike Friesen, who is the all-time leader in wins at SDSU, the Aztecs are 13-4-3 at the Mountain West Championship with titles coming in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
• In 20 previous Mountain West Championships, the Aztecs are 19-11-4, with five titles to their credit. SDSU has made the final 10 times (1999, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
• The Aztecs were the most potent offense during conference play, scoring 24 goals ahead of both New Mexico and Air Force, which scored 20 times each. SDSU's 24 goals were spread among nine players, led by freshman Rachelle Elve who found the back of the net six times.
• By a vote of the conference's 12 head coaches, five San Diego State players garnered end of season awards led by first team All-Mountain West performer junior midfielder Chloe Frisch. She is joined by second team honorees senior defender Sarah Broacha, junior midfielder Laura Fuentes and freshman striker Rachelle Elve. Both Elve and senior keeper Brooke Lisowski were named to the All-Newcomer Team. The five honorees are the most since SDSU had nine members of the 2015 team selected to receive all-league recognition.
• SDSU went 3-2-0 this season vs. the Championship field and yielded nine goals. The Aztecs went 3-0-0, defeating Colorado State (2-0), San Jose State (3-0) and Fresno State (2-1, OT), but lost 1-2 at Boise State and 0-6 and at New Mexico in the regular season finale. The Aztecs were outscored 9-8 in those games, but six of the tallies came in last week's loss at New Mexico.

The Bulldogs enter the game against San Diego State after advancing 3-1 on penalty kicks over (3) Colorado State in the quarterfinal round. On the road this season Fresno State is 3-4-1 and 1-0-1 in neutral site games. The Bulldogs have 11 players have found the back of the net led by Ele Avery's five goals she also leads her team with 11 points. The Bulldogs have used three keepers this season with Milena Zink earning the majority of the minutes. She has as 1.02 GAA, a .773 save percentage and an 4-3-2 record... Fresno State is coached by Brian Zwaschka.
