COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State senior keeper Brooke Lisowski was named the Mountain West Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 6.
Lisowski posted a 2-0 record with wins against UNLV and Nevada last weekend. This is her first Mountain West weekly honor and the first for an Aztec women's soccer player this year. With the pair of wins, the Aztecs have climbed into a three-way tie at the top of the Mountain West table and is riding a three-game win streak.
"We are excited that Brooke was recognized as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week," head women's soccer coach Mike Friesen said. "She was an integral part of a great team effort to limit both our opponent's chances this weekend."
In two games, the Los Gatos, Calif., native, allowed just one goal in a total of 180 minutes posting a 0.50 goals against average.
Against UNLV on Friday night, Lisowski recorded her third clean sheet of the year in a 1-0 victory. She faced a 13-shot barrage from the Rebels but turned away both shots which reached her line.
On Sunday versus Nevada, she and the defense limited the Wolf Pack to a total of seven shots, surrendering one goal and making one save.
San Diego State plays its next four games on the road starting with a critical matchup on Friday afternoon at Boise State, one of the teams it is tied with at the top of the league's standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. (PT).
