SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will host the annual USA Track and Field (USATF) San Diego-Imperial Association Summer Nights Track and Field All-Comers and Red-Black Intrasquad Meet on Saturday, December 7, 2019 on the Aztrack Sports Deck.
The meet kicks off at 10 a.m. with the pole vault and high jump, while the running events get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the men and women's 4x200 meters relays using a "rolling schedule."
"Each year, San Diego State's Track campaign kicks off with the Annual Red-Black Meet," says Head Coach Shelia Burrell. "The track and field community, alumni, families and friends get to see first-hand the results of fall training as the good things to come during the season. What's unique is that participants can see that running, jumping and throwing side-by-side with the women on our team. In 2019, the Aztecs took third at the Indoor Mountain West Conference Championship and second at the Outdoor Championships. With hard work, combined with our strong incoming class, we are looking to move up to second and first."
The annual meet also serves as an intra-squad competition. The Aztecs are split into red and black teams who compete against each other in a dual-meet fashion. Competition routinely goes down to the wire and is often decided by the relay, which includes the coaches, at the end of the meet.
The competition will include Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) with wind readings for sprints and horizontal jumps. Throwers (especially masters) must bring their own implements.
For the ninth year running, the meet will be nationally sanctioned. Youth, high school, junior college, university (including San Diego State students), alumni and masters competitors of all ages can participate an unattached basis, regardless of affiliation or ability. A record 469 athletes competed at the meet in 2018.
Important change for this year's meet! All competitors must register and pay on-line by midnight, Wednesday, December 4th.
On-line entry fee is $10.00 for unlimited events. There will be no day of meet registration available given the size, complexity and quality of the meet.
Spectator admission is free.
Parking is least expensive if you purchase a permit on-line ahead of time for $7/day. It's $3/hour when purchased the day of the meet in the parking structure. Proceeds benefit the San Diego State Track and Field/Cross Country programs.
