LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- San Diego State softball players Paige Barth, Katie Byrd and Marissa Moreno each earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2018-19 academic year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced. To be considered for the award, the student-athletes must have earned a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for the academic year.
In her first season last year, Barth appeared in 12 games, starting seven times, posting a .056 average (1-for-18) with an RBI and two runs scored.
Byrd, who graduated last May, ended her final season with a .290 average (42-for-145), 11 RBIs, 22 runs, eight doubles, a triple, 11 walks and a .352 on-base percentage, while starting all 46 appearances at second base.
Moreno, meanwhile, was named a second-team all-Mountain West selection as a junior last year after posting a 6-8 record in league play with a 2.80 ERA, three saves and two solo shutouts in 80 innings, striking out 62 and holding the opposition to a .217 average. Overall, she was 12-12 with a 3.01 ERA, four saves, four shutouts and 120 strikeouts in 151 1/3 innings.
SDSU continues its nine-game fall schedule at home against Mt. Sac (11 a.m.) and San Diego (4 p.m.) on Saturday. Admission to both games at SDSU Softball Stadium is free.
