SCENE SETTER (through games of Saturday, Oct. 19)
* San Diego State, owners of a FBS-high four road victories in 2019 and one of only 17 teams undefeated on the road this season, concludes a stretch of five out of seven games away from home with a Saturday night contest at UNLV.
* The Aztecs are one of 25 teams nationally with one or fewer losses (10 undefeated teams and 15 one-loss teams).
* San Diego State, which is 30-1 the last 31 times it has owned a turnover margin advantage, is tied for second nationally in turnover margin at +1.57 (14 gained, 3 lost).
* SDSU has not committed a turnover since the first quarter of the Sept. 21 game against Utah State. That means the Aztecs have played 15 straight quarters of turnover-free ball, a streak that covers 270 offensive snaps from scrimmage.
* San Diego State is 6-1 after seven games for the fourth straight season. SDSU is one of just four schools nationally to win six of its first seven games in each of the last four seasons (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and San Diego State).
* SDSU is ranked 28th in both the AP and Coaches top 25 polls.
* The Aztecs' four-game road winning streak is tied for the sixth-longest FBS streak nationally.
* This marks just the second time in the last 44 seasons that SDSU has won its four road game of a campaign (2017).
* San Diego State's defense ranks among the national leaders in nearly every statistical category. Among its highest rankings are: 3rd in rushing defense (62.6), 3rd in rushing yards allowed per carry (2.4), 8th in first downs allowed (100), T-8th in total defense (270.3), T-8th in rushing touchdowns allowed (4), 9th in scoring defense (13.7), T-9th in total touchdowns allowed (11), T-11th in passing touchdowns allowed (6), T-13th in turnovers forced (14), 20th in passing yards per attempt (6.14), T-21st in interceptions (8), 23rd in passing efficiency rating (113.9) and 35th in tackles for loss (6.9).
* On Saturday, San Diego State returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and never trailed in winning its third consecutive game of the season and claiming a seventh consecutive series win over San José State, 27-17.
* SDSU received major contributions in the special teams areas from senior punter Brandon Heicklen and sophomore kick returner Kaegun Williams. Heicklen became the first FBS player in seven seasons to have three punts downed at the opponents' 1 or 2-yard line in a single game. The senior also kept the Spartans backed up all day with their average starting position being the 11.8 yard line following his five punts. Heicklen was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Williams returned the opening kickoff 95 yards to give SDSU its FBS leading 11th KOR TD since 2015.
* San Diego State carries a three-game winning streak into the contest. The Aztecs have a bye next week making this final game of October for SDSU.
* The Aztecs and Rebels are meeting for the 29th time with San Diego State owning an 18-10 series advantage. SDSU had its four-game series win streak snapped last season when the Rebels defeated the Aztecs, 27-24, at SDCCU Stadium.
