COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State freshman striker Rachelle Elve is the Mountain West Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20.
Elve scored three goals and assisted on two others, as SDSU swept a pair of road contests at Air Force and Colorado College last weekend. This is her first Mountain West weekly honor and the second week in a row an Aztecs has earned Offensive Player of the Week.
In addition, the award marks the third time in as many weeks a San Diego State women's soccer player has been recognized by the conference. Midfielder Laura Fuentes and keeper Brooke Lisowski earned offensive and defensive honors in each of the past two weeks, respectively.
In the two games, the Huntington Beach, Calif., native totaled three goals on just three shots, assisted on two others and totaled eight points.
At Air Force, down 3-1 late in the first half, Elve opened her weekend account with a 36th minute strike which sparked a four-goal unanswered streak. Early in the second half she assisted on a Laura Fuentes goal which drew SDSU even with the Falcons at 3-3. Then in the 79th minute, the Edison High School product put the game away with the eventual game-winner. The Aztecs won the game 5-4 and Elve scored twice on two shots and added an assist for a total of five points.
On Sunday at Colorado College, San Diego State again found itself down 1-0 early in the game. At the 14:00 mark, Elve found the equalizer and then assisted on a Chole Firsch goal just two minutes later which put the Aztecs up for good in the 3-2 victory.
With the sweep, San Diego State sits alone in second place on the MW table with three games remaining in the regular season. SDSU wrap up the home portion of its schedule with matches against Fresno State on Friday and San José State on Sunday. Game times at the SDSU Sports Deck are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 11:30 a.m., respectively.
