SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's tennis continued competition at the ITA Southwest Regionals Friday. The day saw one Aztec duo move onto the doubles draw quarterfinals while the final Aztec in the singles elimination draw fell in the quarterfinals.
In doubles play, the 2019 All-Mountain West duo of sophomore Alicia Melosch and junior Nnena Nadozie prevailed in the round of 32 to move onto the doubles draw quarterfinals, topping Kolarova/Slaysman (ASU), 8-4. Freshman Cécile Morin and sophomore Agustina Rimoldi Godoy did not see the same success, dropping an 8-6 decision to Sentenac/Valero (UCSB). Both other Aztec duos did not compete on Friday due to injury.
The lone Aztec in the singles elimination draw, junior Tamara Arnold, saw success in the singles round of 32, battling LMU's Veronika Miroshnichenko to three sets, topping the Lion 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Arnold moved onto the semifinals where she took on No. 9 nationally ranked Jada Hart from UCLA, the tournament's top seed, where she battled but dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to the Bruin.
Both Melosch and Morin played consolation singles matches, each topping their opponent in a best-of-three set duel. Melosch topped UC Irvine's Stephanie Nguyen, 6-2, 6-3, while Morin earned a victory over Long Beach State's Zara Lennon 6-0, 7-5.
The Aztecs continue play tomorrow at 9 a.m. as the lone standing duo of Melosch and Nadozie take on the doubles semifinals at 9 a.m.
