Aztecs Notes
• San Diego State continues its 2019 Mountain West Conference schedule this week with a pair of home games against UNLV and Nevada.
• The Aztecs have played the Rebels 26 times darting back to the 1998 season and lead the all-time series 15-9-2, which includes an 8-3-1 record in games played in San Diego. In the Friesen era, SDSU is 8-4-2 against UNLV, including 4-2-1 in games contested on The Mesa. San Diego State has not beaten UNLV in the last four matchups (0-2-2).
• SDSU and Nevada have met nine times dating back to the 2002 season with San Diego State unbeaten (9-0-0) in the series. The Aztecs are 5-0-0 in games played on the Sports Deck and have outscored the Wolf Pack 15-2 in America's Finest City.
• In 20 years as a member of the Mountain West and after its conference opening loss at Wyoming (9/27), San Diego State is 11-6-4 in league openers. In Mountain West openers which are on the road, the Aztecs are 3-4-1 with three of those losses have come at Wyoming (in 2003, 2005 & 2019). Last week's meeting in Laramie was the first time since 2015 that SDSU started conference play on the road.
• With its 2-0 victory over Colorado State (9/29), San Diego State is 6-2-0 in its conference home opener after playing its first MW game on the road.
• The Aztecs ended a six-game winless streak with its 2-0 decision over Colorado State (9/29). The win was the first since a 1-0 victory over LIU (8/25) and marked just the second time this season the team has found the back of the net more than once in a game. The other time was two days prior in a 3-2 loss at Wyoming.
• SDSU has struggled to put the ball in the back of the net this season, but in the last 98+ minutes all that has changed. In the first seven-plus games, totaling 731:34, the Aztecs scored a total of three goals. In the last 98:26, covering the end of the Wyoming match and the entire Colorado State game, San Diego State has scored four times.
• Welcome back Darcy Weiser (Sr., F, Huntington Beach, Calif.). Weiser missed the first seven games and didn't make her season debut until the 38th minute at Wyoming (9/27). She scored her first goal of the year in the 82nd minute which started a four-goal run for SDSU over the next 98 minutes. The tally sparked the Aztecs come back from a 3-0 deficit to the Cowgirls to make the final decision 3-2. In the team's next game, against Colorado State (9/29), SDSU was the victor, 2-0.
• Strikers strike and along with Weiser's tally at Wyoming, Taylor Moorehead (So., F, Valencia, Calif.) got into the goal scoring action in Laramie. Moorehead's goal got the Aztecs to within one, 3-2, with under 10 minutes to play. It was her first goal of the year and the fourth of her career. In the Colorado State win, Rachelle Elve (Fr., F, Huntington Beach, Calif.) became the third striker to score in the team last two games and forwards have accounted for three of the team's last four goals.
• Kiera Utush (Fr., MF, Rocklin, Calif.) has scored twice this season, each time on a penalty kick. She is the first Aztecs to have multiple successful PKs in a season, since current volunteer assistant coach Victoria Barba put four penalty kicks in the back of the net in the 2016 season. Since the 2003 season, an Aztecs has scored multiple PKs in a season eight times. In addition, Utush is just the second freshman in the last 10 years to score the team's season-opening goal (vs. No. 22 Texas Tech). The other freshman to tally a goal in her first collegiate game in that time frame is Taylor Moorehead (So., F, Valencia, Calif.) who had the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State in the 2018 season.
• With her goal assist against Colorado State, her second on the year, Chloe Frisch (Jr., MF/F, Solana Beach, Calif.) equaled her single-season high, which she accomplished in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns. Both of her goals have been the game winner in each of the squad's victories. Frisch has been on the field for all but 10 minutes this year and leads the team with two assists and six points.
• With nine shots on goal to lead the team, Malia Kaleiohi (Jr., MF/F, San Diego, Calif.) has already more than doubled her single-season high of four, which she set last year. She produced two shots on goal in each of the team's first three games as well as against San Diego (9/13), which are single-game highs for her career. In addition, Kaleiohi has produced 13 total shots, good for second on the team and a single-season high for the junior.
• Brooke Lisowski (Sr., GK, Los Gatos, Calif.), a transfer from California, has played every minute in goal for SDSU and has a 2-6-1 record. In 830 minutes, she has surrendered 16 goals (1.73 GAA) and has made 30 saves (.652 save percentage). In the team's victory over Colorado State, Lisowski recorded her second clean sheet of the year and of her career. Among Mountain West keepers, Lisowski ranks eighth in saves (30) and saves per game at 3.33. In addition, she is seventh in goals against average (1.73) and her seven saves at Miami (FL) equaled the fourth most in a game by a Mountain West keeper this year.

The Rebels enter the game against San Diego State with a 3-7-0 overall record, which includes an 0-2-0 mark in Mountain West play... UNLV was shutout twice last week (0-1) versus Utah State and 0-2 at Boise State... On the road this season the Rebels are 2-3-0, 0-1-0 in conference road contests. UNLV was picked to finish in fifth place among 12 teams in the preseason Mountain West coaches poll... Alysa Caso leads her squad with two goals and four points... The defense is anchored by keeper Emberly Sevilla, who this season appeared and started nine times, has as 2.18 GAA, a .714 save percentage and a 2-5-0 record.... UNLV is coached by Chris Shaw, who is in his sixth season leading the program and brought a 60-35-8 record in Las Vegas into the 2019 season.
Nevada
The Wolf Pack enter the week with a 2-7-0 (1-1-0 MW) record and play at New Mexico on Friday before traveling to San Diego for its match with the Aztecs on Sunday... Nevada was picked to finish in 12th place among 12 teams in the preseason Mountain West coaches poll... The Wolf Pack are 1-1-0 in games away from Reno, which includes a 1-0 overtime victory at Utah State last Sunday... Gabby Brown leads the team with three goals, an assist and seven points... Kendal Stovall has played every minute in goal this season posting a 2-7-0 record... Nevada is coached by Erin Otagaki, who is in her third season in Reno and brought a 5-31-2 record into the 2019 season.
