SAN DIEGO -- Former San Diego State softball standout Lorena Bauer has been named a volunteer assistant coach for the 2020 season, Aztec head coach Kathy Van Wyk announced Tuesday.
Bauer, a 2013 Easton All-American and the 2015 Mountain West Player of the Year, finished her career with a .351 average, 60 home runs, 200 RBIs, 101 runs, 51 doubles, three triples and 62 walks, while recording a .411 on-base percentage and a .737 slugging percentage.
Bauer owns five career records at SDSU, including home runs (60), RBIs (200), doubles (51), total bases (452) and extra-base hits (114). Additionally, she ranks second all-time at San Diego State in slugging percentage (.737), third in batting average (.351), fifth in hits (215), seventh in on-base percentage (.411), ninth in runs (101), 10th in at-bats (613) and tied for 10th in walks (62).
Bauer also appears 29 times in the Aztec single-season record books, including a school-record 67 RBIs as a senior in 2015. Bauer put together one of the best seasons in program history in 2015, when she batted .415 (73-for-176) with 19 home runs, 67 RBIs, 40 runs, 15 doubles, 23 walks, a .488 on-base percentage and a .835 slugging percentage as SDSU finished runner-up at the the NCAA Los Angeles Regional.
Bauer was also a two-time NFCA All-West Region selection (2013 first team and 2015 third team), a two-time all-MW selection (2013 and 2015), five-time MW Player of the Week and a 2015 MW Spring All-Academic Team member.
San Diego State returns all four of its all-MW picks from a year ago, including three-time first-team all-league selection Shelby Thompson, and second-team honorees Taylor Adams, Alicia Garcia and Marissa Moreno. The Aztecs have also added former Oregon standout pitcher Maggie Balint to their roster, as well as Oregon State transfer Sara Lillie and former Oklahoma outfielder Alexa Schultz.
