PULLMAN, Wash. – The Aztec swim and dive team took second place in a relay meet at Washington State Friday evening, going up against the Cougars, Nevada and Idaho. The Aztecs took first in three of the 10 events and placed second in the remaining seven.
SDSU finished with 144 points, coming in behind Nevada's 182 points, but ahead of WSU (78) and Idaho (36). The Aztecs won the 150 yard butterfly relay, the 150 yard backstroke relay and the 1,200 yard freestyle relay.
Two of thee Aztecs three victories came in the meet's first two races. The Thormalm sisters teamed up with Riley Tapley to finish the 150 yard butterfly in 1:15.36 to earn SDSU 14 points out of the gate.
In the second race, Tapley and Alma Thormalm teamed with Elli Ferrin to win the 150 backstroke relay with a time of 1:17.33. The trio of Evonne Stehr, Kassidy Henson and Peyton Wilson took third in the event, hitting the wall in 1:19.56.
The other SDSU victory came in the 3x400 yard freestyle, where McKenna Meyer, Mia Ryan and Milena Karpisz finished in 12:12.84, nearly five seconds ahead of their nearest competition.
