SAN DIEGO – After a week off, the San Diego State women's soccer team gets back to work this weekend with the start of Mountain West play.  The Aztecs open conference play on the road at Wyoming on Friday afternoon and then are home on Sunday to take on Colorado State.  Both matches will have streaming video and live stats with links to both at the team's schedule page on goaztecs.com.

Aztecs Notes
•      San Diego State opens the 2019 Mountain West Conference schedule this week with games at Wyoming and home against Colorado State.
 
•      The Aztecs have played the Cowgirls 22 times darting back to the 1999 season and lead the all-time series 17-3-2. In the Friesen era, SDSU is 12-2-1 against Wyoming, including 3-1-1 in games contested in Laramie. San Diego State is unbeaten in its last six meeting against the Cowgirls.
 
•      SDSU and Colorado State have met six times dating back to the 2013 season with San Diego State holding a 5-0-1 advantage in the series.  The Aztecs are 3-0-0 in games played on the Sports Deck and have never been scored upon by the Rams on its home field.
 
•      In 20 years as a member of the Mountain West, San Diego State is 11-5-4 in conference openers.  In Mountain West openers which are on the road, the Aztecs are 3-3-1 and two of those three losses coming at Wyoming (in 2003 & 2005).  The meeting in Laramie is the first time since 2015 that SDSU starts conference play on the road.
 
•      In 20 years as a member of the Mountain West, San Diego State is 5-2-0 in its conference home opener after playing its first MW game on the road.
 
•      The Aztecs game against Long Beach State on Sept. 22 was cancelled.  There is no make-up date this year and no game is scheduled in its place.
 
•      Freshman Kiera Utush (Fr., MF, Rocklin, Calif.) has scored twice this season, each time on a penalty kick.  She is the first Aztecs to have multiple successful PKs in a season, since current volunteer assistant coach Victoria Barba put four penalty kicks in the back of the net in the 2016 season.  Since the 2003 season, an Aztecs has scored multiple PKs in a season eight times.  
 
•      On goals against No. 22 Texas Tech and at Miami (FL), and with an assist on the Frisch game-winner against LIU, freshman Kiera Utush (Fr., MF, Rocklin, Calif.) leads the team with five points. Utush is just the second freshman in the last 10 years to score the team's season-opening goal (vs. No. 22 Texas Tech).  The other freshman to tally a goal in her first collegiate game in that time frame is Taylor Moorehead (So., F, Valencia, Calif.) who had the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over New Mexico State in the 2018 season.

Wyoming
The Cowgirls enter the game against San Diego State with a 3-2-3 record after losing to South Dakota 3-2 last week at a neutral site... Wyoming is 3-1-0 at home this year, with its lone setback coming against Baylor... The Cowgirls were picked to finish in fifth place among 12 teams in the preseason Mountain West coaches poll...  Indianna Asimus lead her squad with four goals and eight points... The defense is anchored by keeper Hannah Lee, who has appeared each of the team's eight games and has as 1.19 GAA and a .758 save percentage with one shutouts and a 3-1-2 record.... Wyoming is coached by Peter Cuadrado, who is in his eighth season leading the program and brought a 66-55-19 record in Laramie into the 2019 season. 
 
Colorado State
The Rams enter the week with a 5-2-1 record and host New Mexico on Friday afternoon before traveling to San Diego for its match with the Aztecs on Sunday... Colorado State was picked to finish in 10th place among 12 teams in the preseason Mountain West coaches poll... The Rams are 2-2-1 in games away from Fort Collins, which includes victories at Grand Canyon and Valparaiso... Caeley Lordermann and Kristen Noonan lead the team with five goals, an assist and 11 points each... Gabi McDonald has played every minute in goal this season posting a 5-2-1 record, 0.83 GAA and .868 save percentage...  Colorado State is coached by Bill Hempen, who is in his seventh season in Fort Collins and brought a 22-76-16 record at CSU into the 2019 season.
