Meet Preview
San Diego State vs. UCLA & San Diego (Pentathlon Meet)
Friday, Sept. 13 | 2 p.m. PT | USD Sports Center Pool | San Diego, Calif.
The Aztec swim and dive team kicks off the 2019-20 season this Friday when they compete in the annual pentathlon against USD. This year's meet will be at the USD Sports Center pool and will include UCLA.
The Aztecs will be looking to defend their Mountain West Championship in 2020. They finished last season with a perfect 13-0 record in dual meets, their fourth undefeated dual-meet season in the last six years.
The Aztecs set three conference records at last year's Mountain West Championships, including Morganne McKennan's effort in the 100 breast (59.50) and the 200 and 400 medley relay teams consisting of Alma Thormalm, Klara Thormalm, Elli Ferrin, and Courtney Vincent.
McKennan, Klara Thormalm and Courtney Vincent all qualified for the NCAA Championships last spring.
Mike Shrader enters his 13th season as head coach at San Diego State and owns a 149-15 record in dual meet competition over that span. Shrader has had 159 all-conference selections and sent 40 student-athletes to the NCAA Championships during his Aztec tenure.
This will mark the ninth consecutive season SDSU has opened its season with a pentathlon meet against San Diego, and the Aztecs have won all eight of the prior season-opening meetings.
