SAN DIEGO -- Former San Diego State softball players Brittney Womack (née Knudsen) and Stefania Aradillas recently helped their national teams shine on the international stage.

Womack helped the USA Baseball Women's National Team win the gold medal at the 2019 COPABE Women's Pan-American Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico with an 8-5 victory over Venezuela at Estadio de Beisbol Alberto Romo Chavez. The U.S. was undefeated in the tournament, going 7-0 and outscoring the opposition, 124-20, to earn a berth in the 2020 World Baseball Softball Confederation Women's Baseball World Cup. For the tournament, Womack hit .700 (7-for-10) with a double, seven runs and four RBIs, while owning a .769 on-base percentage. Both the .700 average and .769 on-base percentage led the team.

Womack was a four-year starter at San Diego State from 2007-10, where she was a two-time second-team NFCA All-West Region selection (2007 and 2010), a three-time all-Mountain West pick (2007, 2009-10), a 2010 second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honoree, a 2008 MW Scholar-Athlete and a four-time Academic All-MW selection (2007-10). For her career, Knudsen ranks among the all-time top 10 at SDSU in almost every offensive category, including third in on-base percentage (.433) and walks (99), tied for third in runs (134), fourth in hits (226) and singles (172), tied for fifth in games started (218), doubles (36) and triples (8), sixth in batting average (.343), total bases (308), stolen bases (45) and at-bats (658), tied for seventh in games played (220) and extra-base hits (54), eighth in OPS percentage (.900), 10th in slugging percentage (.468) and tied for 10th in sacrifice bunts (29) and sacrifice flies (5). She also appears 10 times in the Aztec single-season record book.

Aradillas, meanwhile, helped the Mexican Softball National Team qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a 2-1 win over Canada in the Softball Americas Olympic Qualifier in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. It will be the first Olympic participation for Team Mexico, who will join Japan (host team), USA (defending world champion), Italy (winner of the Europe/Africa Qualifier) and Canada (defeated Brazil for spot) in Tokyo. The final Olympic spot will be the winner of the WBSC Asia/Oceania Qualifier in Shanghai, China, from Sept. 24-28.

Aradillas spent two seasons with the Aztecs in 2015-16, where she played in 27 games with 13 starts. She was 5-for-43 with five RBIs, six walks and a run scored during her time with SDSU. Prior to joining San Diego State, Aradillas played two years at Mt. SAC, hitting .338 as a sophomore in 2014 and .372 as a freshman in 2013. She won the all-state athlete award in 2014, and was a two-time all-conference student-athlete.

SDSU begins its nine-game fall schedule at home against Grossmont College on Friday, Sept. 27. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. PT. The 2020 spring schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
