SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's golf head coach Leslie Spalding has announced the addition of Ella Adams and Sammy Lee to the Aztec roster for the 2019-20 campaign. Adams will have two years of eligibility for the Scarlet and Black after transferring from Kansas State, while Lee lands on The Mesa as an incoming freshman from Dougherty Valley High School in San Ramon, California.
With their arrival in "America's Finest City", the two latest SDSU newcomers join freshman Bernice Olivarez Ilas, who signed with the Aztecs last November.
A native of Adelaide, Australia, Adams played two years at K-State, posting a 75.75 scoring average in 18 events to go with three top-20 performances. As a sophomore in 2018-19, she shaved three strokes off the average from her rookie campaign (77.07-74.04) while recording two top-20 finishes. At the SMU/Trinity Forest Invitational, Adams logged her highest placement in a Wildcat uniform, tying for ninth after shooting a collegiate-best 3-under 213. She capped off the year by earning first-team Big 12 all-academic honors.
During her first season in the Sunflower State, Adams was part of a team that helped K-State rank fifth nationally in the Golfstat Freshman Class Impact Ranking. In addition, she registered the second-lowest card in program history with a 65 in round two of the Westbrook Invitational.
Prior to college, Adams enjoyed success on the junior circuit, notching 15 top-20 finishes between 2015-17, according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) website. She captured medalist honors at the 2015 South Australia Junior Championship before posting a pair of third-place efforts at the 2016 South Australia Junior Masters and the 2017 Bowra & O'Dea Women's Classic. Additionally, the four-time member of the South Australia Girls and Women's State Team recorded sixth-place performances in consecutive tournaments at the Riversdale Cup and the Rene Erichsen Salver in 2017.
Lee, meanwhile, was a standout in the prep ranks, helping Dougherty Valley High reach the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state tournament all four years, including a runner-up finish in 2018. As a junior that season, she took home the individual crown at the CIF NorCal meet, helping the Wildcats secure the team title.
Lee, who received second-team all-East Bay Athletic League recognition on three occasions, also contributed to her team's CIF North Coast Section championships in 2016 and 2018 to go with a trio of conference titles.
Not to be outdone, Lee has excelled as a junior golfer, capturing medalist honors 10 times in Junior Golf Association of Northern California tournaments between 2012 and 2019, according to the JGANC's website. She also boasts nine additional top-five placements during that span to go with another title at the Hurricane Golf Tour's San Francisco Junior Shootout in 2017.
San Diego State opens the 2019-20 season at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 9-10, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
