SAN DIEGO – Six former SDSU track and field athletes will be competing at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. The competition runs July 25-28 and will air on various NBC channels.
Whitney Ashley (2012, discus), Allison (Reaser) Halverson (2014, heptathlon), Kristen Brown (2015, pole vault), Kortney Ross (2015, pole vault), Ashley Henderson (2018, 100m & 200m) and Bonnie Draxler (2019, pole vault) will all be competing this weekend.
Ashley, a 2016 Olympian and SDSU Hall of Famer, is currently ranked second (63.64m) in the discus and will compete Sunday at 1:00 p.m. PT.
Allison (Reaser) Halverson (Arete Elite Track Club) will be competing in the heptathlon Saturday and Sunday. She enters the weekend ranked No. 4 in the country (6,144 points).
Pole vaulters Kristen Brown, Kortney Ross and Bonnie Draxler compete Sunday at 3:10 p.m. All three enter the competition ranked in the top 12. Ross is ranked No. 7 (4.63m) and Brown and Draxler are tied for 12th (4.56m).
Ashley Henderson (adidas) will be competing in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. The first round of the 100 meter is Thursday at 2:40 p.m. PT, the semifinals are Friday at 3:48 p.m. and the finals are later that evening at 5:44 p.m. The 200 meter dash competition begins on Saturday at 11:33 a.m. PT. The semifinals (3:14 p.m.) and finals (5:43 p.m.) take place Sunday. Henderson enters the weekend ranked tied for fourth in the 100m with a time of 10.96, which she ran at last year's USATF Championships in an Aztec uniform. She is ninth in the 200 (22.49).
